Doug Polk Steps Away From Active Role at The Lodge Card Club

The poker pro said he will remain a shareholder but will no longer have an active role in operating one of Texas’s largest poker clubs.

Professional poker player Doug Polk has announced that he is stepping away from his active role at The Lodge Card Club, ending his involvement with one of Texas’ biggest card clubs while remaining a part owner.

In a statement posted on X, Polk said increasing commitments to other businesses and his family led him to the decision.

“With several other projects demanding more of my time, and my family continuing to grow, I’ve decided this is the right time to step back from my involvement with The Lodge so I can focus more fully on those priorities,” Polk wrote.

He added that he will remain a shareholder but “will no longer have any active role or involvement with The Lodge.”

Polk became a co-owner of The Lodge in 2022 alongside fellow poker professionals Andrew Neeme and Brad Owen.

Departure Follows Turbulent Months for The Lodge

Polk’s announcement comes months after The Lodge faced significant operational disruption following a raid by Texas authorities at its Round Rock location in March as part of an investigation into alleged gambling offenses.

The raid forced the club to shut down and lay off employees. It also caused the postponement of a scheduled World Poker Tour event at the venue. After remaining closed for a little over two months, The Lodge reopened in late May. No criminal charges were announced against the business or its ownership in connection with the investigation.

Despite stepping away from an active role, Polk expressed confidence in The Lodge’s future.

The Lodge has accomplished a great deal over the past several years, and I’m grateful to everyone who helped make that possible,” he wrote. “I have every confidence in the current management team, employees, and ownership… I expect The Lodge will continue to thrive.”

Polk concluded by thanking the club’s staff, members, and the wider poker community for their support. He said that the friendships and community built around The Lodge “mean a great deal to me” and that it felt like “the right time” to close this chapter.
