Oklahoma vs North Carolina prediction

My Oklahoma vs North Carolina best bet: Under 8.5 (-110 at DraftKings)

Both teams are desperate to gain a crucial leg-up by winning Game 1 of this three-game series, so they’ll send out their best arms.

Jason DeCaro has been one of the best pitchers in the country, sporting a 2.31 ERA and 1.27 WHIP over 93 innings. He’s provided the North Carolina Tar Heels with elite starting pitching, tossing 17 strikeouts in his last two outings, including a complete-game two-hitter against USC.

The Oklahoma Sooners have been hot at the dish lately, but this wasn’t a strong-hitting team for much of the season. Their 103 wRC+ ranks outside the top 90, and they struck out 21.6% of the time against RHP entering Omaha (251st nationally).

Freshman Cord Rager has ascended to new heights in the postseason and offers a strong counterpart to DeCaro. Oklahoma’s newfound ace has held Kansas and Alabama scoreless in consecutive outings, allowing four hits to pair with 14 punchouts.

Rager has Big League stuff, and his 2.45 SIERA is an auspicious sign of future success. He has the opportunity for another strong outing against a Tar Heels lineup that has several left-handed bats and has slightly worse numbers across the board against LHP.

Oklahoma’s bullpen has received a huge boost since its starting rotation outside of Rager was moved to the pen late in the season, and North Carolina’s bullpen is unmatched with options like Caden Glauber (2.17 ERA), Jackson Rose (2.15), and Walker McDuffie (3.26).
