The Nederlandse Loterij has moved to strengthen its internal financial structures with the appointment of Ageeth Bakker as its new Chief Financial and Risk Officer (CFRO).
Effective from 1 November 2026, Bakker will take on the responsibility of ensuring that the biggest gambling operator in the Netherlands remains financially cohesive, working alongside Chief Executive Officer Arjan Blok, Chief Technology Innovation Officer Maartje Geven, and Chief Compliance Officer Arno de Jong.
Bakker was welcomed by Raymond Knops, Chairman of the Supervisory Board (RvC) of the Nederlandse Loterij, who said: “The RvC is pleased to welcome a very experienced director like Ageeth Bakker as CFRO of Nederlandse Loterij.
“Her extensive expertise in finance and risk and a career in regulated sectors are a perfect fit for this board position. With the arrival of Ageeth Bakker, the board is at full strength to further realize the strategic ambitions of Nederlandse Loterij, as the most responsible gambling provider and the largest driver of sport and exercise.”
Bakker will transition into her new role from a multi-year stint as the CFRO of insurance company Bovemij Group, where she worked since 2019 and whose Board of Directors she was also a part of.
Previously, she worked as the Chairman and Director of mutual insurance society Centramed Mutual Guarantee Group.
She also has a 13-year professional journey with Achmea Group, working in various capacities and management positions, including as the Financial Director of subsidiaries Centraal Beheer and Avéro Achmea.
On her appointment, she commented: “What particularly appeals to me in the Dutch Lottery is the combination of a strong social mission and a leading position in the gambling sector.
“With 10 trusted brands, the Dutch Lottery offers players a safe and responsible range of lotteries and online gambling, the proceeds of which benefit society.
“I am happy to contribute to that. I look forward to working with the board and all colleagues to continue building a successful and future-proof organisation, so that we can continue to increase our social contribution.”
As pointed out by Bakker, the Dutch Lottery offers 10 different types of games on the domestic market, including the transnational lottery game Eurojackpot. It also offers sports betting and online casino through its TOTO brand.
The state-owned enterprise is the biggest financial backer of Dutch sports, with proceeds returned to society exceeding €200m in 2025.
