World Cup bettors staged a coup at legal sportsbooks Monday on the back of Lionel Messi, Kylian Mbappe, and Erling Haaland’s transcendent performances.

Bettors showed up en masse ahead of Monday’s matches to back the world’s brightest stars to find the back of the net – and much to their approval, all three players delivered.

One Hard Rock Bet customer turned $1,578.94 into nearly $150,000 after Haaland, the last of the three stars to take the pitch, volleyed home his second goal in the 58th minute against Senegal.

A Caesars Sportsbook spokesperson told Covers that an Arizona bettor won $53,270 from a $1,000 wager on the triple-header.
Pikkit, a free mobile application that tracks and aggregates betting information, reported that approximately 5,300 users won the Messi-Mbappe-Haaland two-plus goal parlay. Those individuals combined to win $5.1 million, or about $962.26 per person.
$800K rests on Kane
While Monday’s matches already resulted in huge wins for customers, one of the largest possible payouts is still hanging in the balance.
An X user posted a slip of a four-leg, $500 parlay placed at Fanatics using a 25% profit boost. The ticket carries +159,250 odds for a maximum possible payout of $796,750.
The first three legs of the parlay – Messi, Mbappe, and Haaland to score at least twice – had already cashed. The final leg is for England’s Harry Kane to also bag at least a brace Tuesday against Ghana.
Kane was on target twice in England’s 4-2 win against Croatia in the country’s opening match. At the time of writing, he has -190 odds of scoring at least once and +220 odds (31.3% implied chance) of scoring two or more.
Kane began the tournament around +500 odds to win the Golden Boot, behind only Mbappe (+300) and Messi (+440). He’s still third at +500, while Messi (+190) and Mbappe (+200) have shortened significantly. Mbappe and Haaland will square off in their teams’ final group stage game Friday.
World Cup champion odds
As the world’s superstars continue to bang in the goals, France (+400) has taken the lead in World Cup odds at FanDuel. Spain was the first team to feel the effects, dropping from pole position to second (+500).
England (+600) is still in third, while defending champion Argentina (+650) has closed the distance. Portugal fell to +1,100, just a tick ahead of Brazil (+1,200) and Germany (+1,300).
Further down the board, the USA’s odds shortened to +3,300, good for 11th. The Stars and Stripes will close out their group stage against already eliminated Türkiye on Thursday.
